André Valentim Almeida, PhD student on Interactive Documentary enrolled at the University of Porto (being fully funded through a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), Master degree in Information Management at the University of Aveiro (2004, dissertation on Communication and Multimedia Systems with Video Integration: Evolution, State of the Art and Good Practices), PgDip in Health Informatics at the University College London (2003, UK) and degree in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Aveiro (2000, having spent one semester as an Exchange student at the University of Salford, UK).
Monitor and collaborator at the University of Aveiro from 2000 to 2002 and Assistant Professor at the University of Porto since 2003 in the area of Video and Audio production and Multimedia, he is currently exempt from teaching in order to pursue his PhD. Member of the Centre for Technologies, Arts and Communication Science Studies (CETAC.COM), his research is focused on the merge between audiovisual (more specifically documentary) and the Web. He has been involved in several video productions and just finished a feature documentary titled "Uma na Bravo outra na Ditadura" (Between Carnation and Tarnation: a portrait of a Generation). He has also been involved in different multimedia projects at the University of Porto like the TVU Project, a video distribution portal particularly conceived for the academic community. He also collaborated on the setup of the UFrame, an International Film Festival based in Porto targeted for College students that is currently on its third year of existence.

More recently, he was the Scientific Coordinator of a large-scale video and audio training at the Portuguese News Agency –LUSA–, spending several months training journalists and editors at the newsroom (July 2008 to February 2009) and is still collaborating on the development of future training activities. He was also at the University of Texas at Austin for 3 months (March-May 2009) as a visiting student and is currently based in New York, part of a program for non-fiction media research and group production at the non-profit organization UnionDocs while he pursues his PhD.
